Life and Death at the Beach--in Photos

I took these pictures on Halloween when I went to the beach in Oregon. As someone who grew up landlocked, the ocean always feels like a mystical place to me. So many odd, unusual things washed up onto the shore. Pretty sure the tide would have deposited an entire alien civilization at my feet if I had stayed long enough :)

Mid-day at Seaside, Oregon

Mmm. Hope they're not poisonous.

Beach wildlife!

Do not touch the jellyfish.

What kind of magic beach washes up whole sand dollars?

I did not know what a live sand dollar looked like till I saw (touched) this one.

The CLAW!

Nearing sunset.

  1. So pretty! I wish I lived near the beach. The closest decent thing I have is a rocky lakeside about an hour away. But that's just lovely! And a full, flawless sand dollar? *pets*
Time for me to book a beach trip, I think! You better enjoy your new Oregon beach-goer ways! :)

    1. Well, I will still be about 75 minutes from the beach, or a little farther from the best beaches, but close enough that when I'm in a mood I can just be like "Screw it. I'm going to the ocean!" And I will also be close to a mountain and forests! #YayNature

    2. Seems to me that, despite the fact you're moving EVEN FARTHER away from me, it'll be a great place to be. That all sounds so pretty.

  3. Is it terrible that all I could think about when I saw the berries was Under the Never Sky because I just.

ALSO IS THAT WHAT A JELLYFISH LOOKS LIKE OUT OF WATER. REALLY. OMFG. I WANT TO SQUISH IT.

    1. Yes, that's a big jellyfish. I think it might still be able to sting you until it dries out, but I'm not sure because I didn't touch it.

  4. I haven't been to the beach in SO LONG so I am definitely living vicariously through you with these.

I vote that the beach wildlife was, in fact, a cute puppy out on a walk.

I know you should never touch a jellyfish, but they're so cool looking!

Sand dollars are so pretty! The child in me is squeeing!

The claw is creeping me out. A lot.

And the sunset looks really nice! One of the things I love about living on the 11th floor of an 18 floor dorm building is the view I get of the sunsets over NYC.

Lovely post! Wish I can go to a beach soon .-.
