BOOK BLAST GIVEAWAY: This is How it Happened

Hi lovely bookish peeps :) It's Book Blast time and I'm giving away the first finished copy of my newest contemporary novel, THIS IS HOW IT HAPPENED.

About two-thirds of the book takes place in Springdale, Utah, near or in Zion National Park, one of my favorite places on Earth.

View of Zion Canyon and the Virgin River from Scout Lookout.

This is the view behind the Zion Human History Museum. When I visited,
an artist was back there painting it, which I totally understand.

Here’s more about the story:

When Genevieve Grace wakes up from a coma, she can’t remember the car crash that injured her and killed her boyfriend Dallas, a YouTube star who had just released his first album. Genevieve knows she was there, and that there was another driver, a man named Brad Freeman, who everyone assumes is guilty. But as she slowly pieces together the night of the accident, Genevieve is hit with a sickening sense of dread—that maybe she had something to do with what happened.

As the internet rages against Brad Freeman, condemning him in a brutal trial by social media, Genevieve escapes to her father’s house, where she can hide from reporters and spend the summer volunteering in beautiful Zion National Park. But she quickly realizes that she can’t run away from the accident, or the terrible aftermath of it all.

Incredibly thought-provoking and beautifully told, Paula Stokes’s story will compel readers to examine the consequences of making mistakes in a world where the internet is always watching…and judging.

Here's what ALA Booklist thought about the novel:

  2. "What's one of the best books you've read in 2017 so far? Tell me two reasons why it was one of your favorites." I am currently reading "Shriver" by Chris Belden. (1) It's witty. (2) It's amusing.

  3. High Noon by Glenn Frankel which combines the history of Hollywood, the life of Gary Cooper and the story of the Blacklist.

  4. I suppose I should go with something that came out this year so I'll go with One of Us Is Lying by Karen M. McManus.

    1. With the multiple points of view, I felt like I got to know the characters better and it also made every one a possible suspect.
    2. As with almost every mystery, my first hunch is usually correct and this was no exception. But at least the reveal was pulled from the actual story. When I read a mystery and the author just pulls something out of their butt, I want to scream!!

    Thanks for the chance! :)

  5. Daughter of a Pirate King was a top read so far and first book I had delivered on release day. I loved the POV spunky, smart character as well as the swoony romance dripping with chemistry to die for.

  6. Two recent great books were Ramona Blue, which is serious and funny, and Flying Lessons, which is one of the rare anthologies that contains nearly all hits and no real misses.

  7. THE ANCHORESS by Robyn Cadwallader was an intriguing read. A time period, the middle ages, that is full of interest. The character interactions held my attention throughout.

  8. I've been in such a bad reading slump this year, its been going on even longer than this year has, so I've only actually read 7 books. But my favorite was the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them screenplay by J.K. Rowling. It was before the DVD was out, so being able to read the screenplay of the movie and relive the magic on page was such a delight. Hopefully my slump for reading ends soon so I can get to reading my 3 book con books, as well as books I have purchased this year, yet haven't read because of said slump.
