Spring 2018 YA Scavenger Hunt

Hi hi! Once again it's time for the YA Scavenger Hunt!!! YASH gives you a chance to check out scads of fun bonus material and enter to win like a bajillion books. If you're new to the hunt, confused about how to play, or you get stuck somewhere, check this site for instructions on how to hunt. The hunt starts at noon Pacific (so 3:00 pm Eastern) on April 3rd and runs through noon Pacific on April 8th. My post will go up the night before, as usual, so that organizers have time to verify links, but if you start hunting early, keep in mind that some of the links might be inactive.

This hunt I am proud to represent the  RED TEAM! I'm hosting HeatherMcKenzie!

Heather is promoting NOCTURNE, book 2 of the Nightmusic trilogy. Holy crap! How beautiful is that cover? :)

Here’s more about the book:

I am hunted.
A pawn in a vicious game.
The only way I can protect the ones I love...
...is to disappear.

Finally free of her father, Kaya has the one thing that keeps her heart beating—Luke.

Blissfully content in his arms, everything seems perfect…until their world is shattered by a deadly invasion. When an old ally comes to the rescue, Kaya wants none of it. She is devastated to learn the identity of her attacker, and that she must do something truly heartbreaking if she wants to save the ones she loves. Sacrificing everything and sinking into bottomless sorrow, Kaya finds solace in an unlikely friend—one who shows her a different kind of love, and helps her discover an inner strength she never thought possible.

For her bonus content, Heather is sharing original music from her album 'Decoy.' If you’ve read her book SERENADE, you can picture Kaya and Luke slow dancing while you listen to the song ‘All I Need.’ The song ‘Anything Like This’ is about being grateful for the love you’ve found, marvelling how it has survived all the obstacles thrown before it – which is fitting for book two, NOCTURNE.

You can listen to more of Heather’s original music on her website, or on YouTube where you will also find live performance footage of her and her band covering cool tunes from artists such as Led Zeppelin and Lorde.

Here's more about Heather:

Heather McKenzie is the Canadian author of The Nightmusic Trilogy. Also a professional singer/songwriter with five albums to date, she told stories through music for years before falling in love with novel writing. Heather pulls from her extraordinary experiences as a musician to fuel her passion for creating Young Adult fiction.

SECONDARY GIVEAWAY!

One lucky red team winner will score a mega prize pack, including SERENADE (Book one of the Nightmusic Trilogy) from Heather and a copy of my eleventh novel (yes, 11 is the secret number for my post), HIDDEN PIECES.  But you guys know I love these secondary giveaways, so for this YASH I'm going to hook you up with a $25 gift card for Etsy, Society6, B&N, Best Buy, or Target. If none of those gift cards work for you, you can also select your choice of any book up to $25 in price from Book Depository or Wordery. To enter, just fill out the Rafflecopter below.

  1. I love YASH and I can't believe it's real - so many amazing authors giving away SO MUCH STUFF!! My only suggestion is that I wish the YASH website was a little easier to navigate. Thanks so much, Paula!

  2. Maybe more advertising to get more authors with authors who have books on Kindle for preorder. Not sure how that would be done though.

  3. One suggestion I have to make this better is to have the authors listed in order that they host each other.

  4. I really like the giveaway the way it is.

  5. Paula, YASH is such a great program that allows me to get to know new (and returning) authors and their work. I really don't have any suggestions unless you could provide snacks while I read all the awesome extra content provided :)

  6. I don't have any suggestions. I think YASH is very well organized and it is super fun to discover new authors or new books from favorite authors.

  7. I don't have any real suggestions for YASH. I think it is well organized and I enjoy discovering new authors or new books from favorite authors.

  8. First time participating. No hop change suggestions at this time.

  9. This is only my second time participating. It is fun !! If any suggestion at all it would be to make numbers more clear and in correct color. On so many pages there are many numbers in different colors and some authors number are in color at all.
Thank you for this wonderful chance

  10. I love this scavenger hunt. I think what would be helpful is that whoever joins will receive a copy to print out with all the names of each author and team so its easier to keep track of the numbers.

  11. I love doing the scavenger hunt! My one suggestion would be to make it a *little* longer. As it has grown larger, it has gotten harder to complete YASH within the time limit. I'm lucky this time that it falls over my spring break, but it can be very hard to complete it when school is in.

  12. As bad as it sounds, I almost wish there were less authors in the Hunt. There's not a lot of time to get through all the pages, and sometimes it's overwhelming with too many authors! I'd rather have fewer authors with bonus material I actually have time to get through! (PS miss ya Paula!!!)

  13. What if every author had a line, or a segment, of a story that could be finished? OR since this is April, Poetry Month, have a contest among all authors for the best poem that aligns with the various author's genres as well as the hunt? Pretty much all of this is great though!

  14. I love the giveaway I think it's great as is.

  15. I love YASH so much! One suggestion I have is that YASH be more active on social media. They have a Twitter and a FB, but I found out about this hunt starting from their website. I think there's a lot of wasted potential there!

  16. It's kind of cliche but more authors participating in YASH :)

    ReplyDelete
  17. My suggestion would be more personal story details. Nothing to crazy just some of your favorite passtimes, movies, books, foods ect. It helps to get to know authors better.

  18. Always more authors more fun! But really I love the scavenger hunt and participate every year. I love getting to discover new authors and enjoy th returning authors' new releases.

  19. I love YASH but I wish there was more time to do it. I feel like I have to rush.

  20. I love the YASH as well as other people. I wish we had more time as well. I work full time during the week and have other responsibilities on the weekend. Never feel like have enough time to go investigate all the books and the extras provided by the authors.

  21. Sometimes it is kind of rough as you are going through following and someone doesn't have it posted so you have to find where they post. I then get lost so now I do the stuck ones and follow each and everyone there.

  22. Thank you for the giveaway :)
Honestly I love it and it's a great idea :)

  23. I love this. It's my first time so no suggestions yet!

  24. It's only my second YASH but I don't think you can make it better. Both times have been enjoyable. Although stressful. So maybe if you could like, go to someone like a team captain (since hundreds of people going to one person would be daunting) and go "hey is my final number right yes or no?" and so if "no" you have a chance to redo it. Because even if you clearly write it out and use a calculator there is room for mistake, and my biggest fear is that my entries won't count even though I spent 8+ hours on it last time and who knows how many this time (I'm already at 2 hours and I'm still on team red). That would greatly lessen the stress.

  25. I think it's great the way it is! I really like the Answer Sheets and the links directly to every author's site that is listed on the "Stuck" page. Very helpful!

  26. I think The YA Scavenger Hunt is great the way it is, it is my first time doing it and I will definitely continue every time there is one!

  27. This is so much fun loving it ⚘🌟

  28. Nothing could make it better! I love the YA Scavenger Hunts (as well as the extra give-aways) just the way it is!

  29. Thank you for this awesome giveaway! Best of luck to everyone!

  30. New to this YASH thing. Seems like fun so far, a little confusing but so will get the hang of it... I hope :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. Yeah, I have no complaints with how the SH is going. You all are awesome! :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'm new to YASH but so far it all seems pretty simple and straight forward :)

    ReplyDelete
  33. This is my second time partaking in YASH, and it is great the way it is. The only thing I might suggest is more social media involvement, or better advertising on social media.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I think maybe one way to make the YA Scavenger Hunt even better would be to have at least one more team of authors to make it seven teams, and having other well-known authors like Renee Ahdieh and Richelle Mead to partipate.

    ReplyDelete
  35. i honestly don't think it could be much better. I also love that it's a mix of indie and some more well known authors, because yash is a great tool to give authors exposure as well as help us readers discover new authors. to that effect, i think someone said, better advertising. Not that i want more competition for the prizes, but for the authors, the more people who know about yash the better.

personally, i wish it was a little longer so i had a little more time, but that's only cuz my work schedule is crazy and hectic and i don't have a ton of free time

  37. Keeping the contest open to midnight would be really helpful to me! As a college student, I don't have a ton of time during the week to hunt so the weekend is my prime time (along with homework), but since the contest closes at Noon on Sunday, I have less time. :)

  38. there's too much. i realize that seems like a crazy thing to say. but it just gets stressful... if there was like 1/2 the amount and the authors split over the spring and fall yash would be so much more enjoyable. never mind actually possible in the very limited time frame.

  39. This is my first time participating so I'm still getting a feel for it - a little bit confusing still, but I'll figure it out! :)
