First Day of Winter VICARIOUS ARC Giveaway (INT)

Hi :D Happy holidays! If you're still shopping, check out my holiday gift ideas over on the EpicReads blog. There are things you can buy now and still have in time for Christmas.

Today is the official release day for the Liars, Inc. paperback. I'm proud to say that Liars, Inc has received more positive trade reviews than any other book I've written :)

Check out the official Liars, Inc. website for more info about the book, buy links, and fun extras like quizzes and top ten lists. EpicReads also has a post about why fans of How to Get Away With Murder will enjoy Liars, Inc. If you've seen the show, you'll want to check out the post just for the adorable #Coliver GIF.

But I know, I know, none of that is why you're here. You're here for the giveaway, right? Book people...so predictable ;) So today is the first day of winter (for me, anyway--happy summer to you Southern Hemisphere dwellers), and because the main character in Vicarious is named Winter, I thought it'd be fun to give away an ARC. I actually thought about renaming her, because back in 2012 when I was writing the first draft of this, I knew that bestseller Marissa Meyer had a forthcoming book with an MC named Winter. But it's hard to rename a character after you've known her for a while, and I ultimately decided that no one would get my knife-throwing, bridge-jumping stunt girl confused with Snow White :) Plus she has a Korean name too :D [Fun fact: her Korean name actually means "sky."]

It's a snowflake, because Winter. Yes, I continue to excel at graphics ;)

If you've ended up here but don't know if you really want a free signed ARC of Vicarious [spoiler: you do], I'll let these awesome authors try to convince you:

"Reading this book is like tiptoeing through a minefield. Blindfolded. In other words, I'm in love." -Victoria Scott, author of Titans and Fire&Flood

"A mind-bending thrill ride with a female protagonist who’s as smart as she is strong. Readers will love Winter!" -Lindsay Cummings, author of The Murder Complex and The Death Code.

Need more info? Click here for my books page and scroll down to read the official cover copy.

And now for the giveaway: I only have two or three more Vicarious ARC giveaways planned in the next six months, and at least one of those will be for newsletter subscribers only. So if you want a signed ARC, make this Rafflecopter your beotch :) The question for leaving a blog comment is about your favorite YA main character name. Hopefully that'll be a fun one for people to answer :) Happy holidays!

  1. My favorite YA main character name would be Blue Sargent from The Raven Cycle. I don't know, I love names that seemed so simple yet unique hehe

    1. Blue is a cool name. It's odd enough to be unique but not so odd that people make a big deal out of it.

  2. Finley! It's a female MC who's seriously tough in The Girl In a Steel Corset. Love it & her. And, both of my daughters have names I swiped in some way from romance novels. I didn't even notice until my bff pointed it out later! Oops!

    1. I LOVE the name Finley! That is pretty, and it sounds very classic and refined too. Finley sounds like someone destined to be smart and successful *changes own name to Finley* :D

  3. I'm going with Katniss Everdeen. It's unique, original (aside from the fact that I'm pretty sure ALL of the HG names were taken from Shakespeare), and it's memorable. And no, I haven't named a pet (no kids) after a fictional character, and I probably wouldn't. I wonder how many Bellas and Esmes have flooded the grade schools by now... ;)

    1. I hate most of the names in The Hunger Games ;) Are they really from Shakepeare? Even Peeta? Because that sounds 100% like the name of a dorky robot from the year 2450. I do like the name Gale, however. And the character Gale :D

  4. I really liked Wren Connolly from Amy Tintera's Reboot series. Apart from it being a pretty unique name, I liked how her name referred to something small and innocent in contrast to her identity as Wren 178 the tough, emotionless reboot.
Happy winter from the Southern Hemisphere! It's been summer for a while here now and we're already into bushfire season and wishing for cool weather again!

  5. My favorite YA character name would be Vivian from I Am Her Revenge. I'm just so fascinated with the name because it sounds so classy. I also like Primrose from THG! It sounds so feminine. :)

    1. I totally did not know (forgot?) that Prim was short for Primrose, which I agree makes it a much prettier name.

  6. Happy paperback birthday!!!!

YA names... I love EVERYONE'S name in Six of Crows lol. They all roll off the tongue so nicely - Kaz, Inej, Nina, Jesper, Wylan, Matthias...

    1. Those ARE all good names. And good names can really make a difference in a story with a larger cast of characters like that one. (Which I still haven't read yet but I think my turn is coming up soon--I have it on request at the library.)

  7. I really like the name Tobias. Also, Warner. I suppose I should pick a female name as well. I'll go with Spencer from PLL series. There are just so many names to choose from aND yet I'm drawing a blank. Lol.

    1. Well, I prefer the name Four, but I like all the PLL girls' names. Not sure if I prefer Spencer or Aria.

    2. I've noticed that most people prefer Four over Tobias, but I feel a connection to his life before Dauntless. That's probably why I choose his former name.

  8. My favourite MC name changes all the time... depending on which character I'm in love with at the time. At the moment I think it's Lila, which is the name of characters in both Holly Black's White Cat and A Darker Shade of Magic by V. E. Schwab.

My name though... is from a book. The naming of me is a bit of a long and complicated story but I'm actually named after the protagonist of the Obernewtyn Chronicles by Isobelle Carmody.

    1. I love the Curse Workers' trilogy with a sickness. That might be my fave trilogy of all time. I love the name Cassel!

And I love your name too :) It sounds so mysterious and classic!

  9. My favorite YA name is probably Kestrel, from The Winner's Curse. Also Cress (Crescent Moon) from the Lunar Chronicles, but that ones a little outlandish if you're not from the future haha.

    1. Oooh Kestrel is really pretty. And in a world where people name their daughter Hashtag (will she go by # for short?), Cress sounds just fine to me ;)

  10. My favorite YA name is probably Juliette from the Shatter Me series! I absolutely loved that series, so I probably will name my future kid that.

  11. I really love the name Aelin from Queen of Shadows just because it flows beautifully, but Amani from Rebel of the Sands and the love interest Jin (a boy who reminds me a lot of a tricky genie) are great names as well!

    1. I don't like girls' names I can't easily figure out how to pronounce, but I have loved the name Jin ever since he was just a fighting boy on the arcade game Tekken :)

  12. My favorite YA name is Ben (Benevolence) from the book Princess Ben. She is just such an anti-princessy princess and her name reflects that, as well as she's just a super awesome character. I also really like Lindy from Beastly and Ford from the Revenge and Broken Hearts series.

    1. I've never heard of this book, but I like the sound of an anti-princessy princess and Ben is a fun name for a girl :)

  13. My favorite YA main character name is Lara Jean from To All The Boy's I've Loved Before. I haven't exactly named a pet after a main character, but I did name my new puppy Jamie Fox Pickle, and he is present in the same book! Lol!

One is Olivia, of course! Others are Alison(from Pretty Little Liars) Clio & Thais (from Balefire), and the list goes on.

    1. See, I have no idea how to say that. Guesses in order would be FAIR, FIRE, and FEAR, but IDK if any of those are right...

  17. My fav YA main character name is Eustace Clarence Scrubb from The Dawn Treader by CS Lewis because the first line of the book says that he almost deserves a name as awful as that! And it completely fits his character. He's awful. But at least he is a dynamic character and changes through the story. :) I just love Lewis's sense of humor.

    1. Wow. You can definitely tell he put a lot of thought into that name. Hopefully parents aren't using that one (or Renesme >_>) for their kids too often ;)

  20. My favorite name from a MC from a YA book HAS TO BE Juliette Ferrars from the Shatter Me series by Tahereh Mafi! Also, thank you for this great opportunity, I'm really excited for Vicarious to hit the shelves! >:D

    1. OMG I still need to read that. I bought it years ago when Borders was going out of business, but my book priority list is:
      1. library books I have to return
      2. books written by author-friends
      3. other books

And I never get to those other books!
